How to Make Fast Food Nutritious

Welcome back!

Fast food nutrition sounds like an oxymoron but you can, in fact, get all the nutrients you need from various fast food menu items. Once or twice a week the drive thru menu won’t hurt your diet if you remember smart fast food nutrition guidelines. The rest of the week, stick with wholesome foods that are found in the outer aisles of the grocery store. Study your food nutrition facts ahead of time so when you are in a hurry or just want something different, you can safely go through the drive-thru knowing your fast food nutrition guidelines.

Only Occasionally

Fast food nutrition should only be eaten once per week, if that. There will be times you have little choice but to visit a fast food restaurant. Let’s say you only have a few minutes left on your lunch hour and you only have time to stop through the drive thru to get a quick bite to eat. Or, let’s say that you’ve done really well on your nutritious eating all week long and you are deciding to treat yourself; for these types of cases, fast food nutrition is OK.

Good Decisions

You can eat fast food without totally blowing your diet. You can make good fast food nutrition choices if you know your food nutrition facts. This means you know which foods are more wholesome and which ones have been processed and stripped of their nutrients. Many fast food restaurants now make accommodations for those who are trying to either watch their weight or who are just trying to remain healthy. Most restaurants will at least have grilled chicken sandwiches, salads, and some sort of fruit available. When choosing these types of items, keep condiments and dressings to a minimum, as these can quickly add more calories than you should be eating in one sitting.

If you limit your trips to these restaurants to once or twice a week, learn your nutrition facts, and make the right decisions each time, fast food nutrition can become a part of your healthy eating plan. If you keep up with this type of eating, and you get some exercise, you’ll soon find yourself in the best shape of your life. Whether you’re trying to lose weight, maintain your weight or you’re trying to gain weight, fast food nutrition can help you get there, you just have to be selective about the menu items you choose.
